Depression
Depression is a common condition that affects approximately one in ten people at some point in their lives. Common symptoms of depression include feeling low or melancholy. People with depression lose the ability to feel pleasure in the activities that they previously enjoyed. They stop desiring to spend time with friends and acquaintances and oftentimes lose motivation and energy. This oftentimes leads to isolation which can exacerbate the condition as people lack support.
Therapy can be a powerful tool to deal with depression. Building an alliance with a therapist is essential. There are also specific techniques that have been proven to help people emerge from their depression.
Our therapists work alone or in conjunction with prescribers to help develop the best treatment plan so that you resolve your depression as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.
Anxiety
Anxiety afflicts many people throughout their lives. It takes many different forms. Some people feel anxiety around others–new people, groups of people, etc. Others tend to worry about a variety of things most of the time. They worry that bad things are going to happen even if there is no reason to expect that. Others get preoccupied with things being just right which can get in the way of their everyday activities.
Through psychotherapy people can address their anxiety directly and work through what are oftentimes irrational thoughts that have little bearing on reality.
Our therapists are trained to treat many different types of variety. They work with each individual to assess what the traits of their anxiety are and how best to tailor the treatment to address their unique condition.
Grief
The death of loved ones is one of the most challenging things that any of us go through in life. Whether unexpected or faced slowly over time, the death of someone we know confronts us with feelings of finality that we do not usually face with most things in life. There is a unique pain that attends the death of a loved one.
We work closely with clients to work through the grieving process. While some people can work through grief on their own, talking the process through with a therapist can help with the pain. It can also help people explore their relationships with the deceased. This can be a particular challenge when the relationship had many difficulties that could not be directly addressed during the deceased’s lifetime.
Trauma
It has become clear in the field of mental health that trauma is a more common experience than practitioners and clients had been aware of in the past. Traumatic experiences are blows to our psyches that have the potential to adversely affect the way we see and deal with the world. Trauma can lead to persistent feelings of anxiety and depression, and it can lead to avoidance and difficulty dealing with situations for which we might otherwise be adequately prepared.
At Qlarity we focus on traumatic experiences and utilize proven psychotherapeutic techniques to help reduce the symptoms that trauma causes. With methods such as EMDR and CBT we work to alleviate the pain associated with trauma and thereby help clients manage their lives more effectively.
Relationship Difficulties
In any committed relationship difficulties emerge at some point in time. Sometimes those challenges are long-standing; other times they are shorter-term issues related to newly emerged circumstances. There may be challenges with communication or differences in expectations within the relationship.
Couples therapy can help to navigate these problematic dynamics and help couples work towards a resolution. Reconciliation is most often the goal. Our therapists work with couples to figure out where the central conflicts lie and then to work towards alleviating those conflicts. Sometimes central conflicts remain and working towards an amicable separation may be necessary. We help couples to determine which solution is right for them and other loved ones involved. Finding the right path forward is something our therapists are trained to help determine in conjunction with the wishes of the couple.
Adolescent Problems
The developmental changes that occur during adolescence provide major challenges for children as well as parents and other adults in their lives. Adolescent children often face troublesome interpersonal dynamics. Mood swings, including anger and sadness, are common. Behavioral disruptions often go along with those emotional problems.
Our therapists have experience working with adolescents and the problems they commonly face. We offer psychotherapeutic services for adolescent children and/or their parents to help work through these problems that are a common part of life. In addressing the mood issues as well as difficult interpersonal dynamics with peers and loved ones, our therapists help your adolescent child work through these issues and find healthy coping mechanisms to deal with this very difficult time in life.
Chronic Disease
Coping with chronic disease is a serious challenge. Issues of pain, discomfort, and inability to function at the same level physically are common with chronic disease. Sometimes medical treatments can only alleviate the symptoms so much. The patient is left to try to cope and adapt to the new condition, and such adaptations can be very difficult to make on one’s own.
Therapy can be a powerful tool to help adjust to the limitations that chronic disease imposes. We work to provide individuals with psychotherapeutic tools that they can use to understand their situation and adapt, thereby maximizing their functionality and minimizing the symptoms that may be aggravated by the emotional difficulties that accompany chronic disease.
Sleep Difficulties
Insomnia is one of the most common symptoms that accompanies many mental health diagnoses. It oftentimes accompanies anxiety or depression. Insomnia alone can cause emotional distress and difficulty functioning overall. Our brains just don’t work the way they should when we are sleep deprived.
Insomnia can occur for a variety of reasons. Medication for insomnia is very common, but it has its limitations. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has even indicated that cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia is the most consistently effective treatment for insomnia. Our therapists utilize CBT and other modalities to help develop better sleep habits and skills for alleviating the pervasive anxious thoughts that occur when we are struggling with insomnia.
Anger Management
We provide assistance for those who struggle with anger management. We understand the complications that occur when anger cannot be controlled. Whether it causes relationship problems or leads to legal consequences, our therapists can help clients to develop better skills for managing their anger.
We work one on one with individuals to reduce their anger and find coping mechanisms for reducing it when it occurs. Our therapists provide written documentation for our clients to demonstrate that they are working in therapy to deal with their anger issues.
